The thread got really weird for a bit. All vinyl records are made of PVC, which is naturally colorless. To turn this clear material into a solid color, titanium dioxide and other additives are mixed in. To make the standard black vinyl color, black carbon is often added, which strengthens the PVC mix.

Yes, it just sends the same mono signal to both channels. When played back over a stereo system, the "image" should appear near dead center. If the sound is out of phase, just reversing the + and the - cartridge leads should flip it. -Bill. KT88, Feb 21, 2011.
