Disconnect where the opening/closing cables attach do the door. Then it'll slide freely. Then you can decide whether you want to remove the whole motor or leave it in there. This is accentuated if the van is parked on an incline like a driveway. The jerkiness occurs more when closing and a couple times have stopped and reversed.
