I can physically move the shift from PARK all the way down to DRIVE, but mechanically the transmission will not go into gear. I aslo drained some of the fluid and it does not look ok, tell me what you guys think. It typically happens when I stop at a light but sometimes when I simply decelerate. I find that if I take the car out of drive when I decelerate, I have less chance of it switching to limp home mode.

That's when using it in sporty automatic mode (i.e. with the gear lever in drive then pushed to the side to make it more aggressive). I find that when it's in that mode and you're driving through slow/slow-ish traffic it sits at high revs and won't change up gear.
