The moonveil's ash of war is basically unsheathe+ since it gets range. its good, not even close to the actually strong weapons but better than most weapons. Definitely still a good weapon. It's busted, the damage it deals and how fast it is for only 20 FP, all other sorcery is downright useless not to mention slow. With moonveil even if you run out of FP you're still in the game because you can powerstance it with another katana that does bleed. Oh yeah, haven't mentioned bleed. Obviously in pvp it’s still alive and well. Maybe at the higher end it’s better in pve but so far at lower levels it’s underwhelming. I can’t even use it to level anymore. It doesn’t even stagger regular gate front knights. That was part of what made moonveil so good. Now it just feels like a regular katana with a blue ranged attack.
If you get the timing right with the moonveil katana, you can counter most ashes of war with the vertical slash, it used to have a generous "parry" window which has been reduced in duration and most enemies stagger bars are to large to exploit anymore, however players still get wrecked if they have the check to try and spam skills in your face.

If you want to get really creative and have some fun try Moonveil in right hand and meteorite katana in left hand. So you still have the weapon art of Moonveil but your light two hand attacks WRECK.
