These systems are under pressure during normal use. If you have a leak in the overflow tank, or elsewhere, it can lower the pressure in the system and cause the water/coolant to boil a bit. Jun 4, 2022. #12. Most common cause of bubbling or boiling in the overflow is a bad radiator cap. The center spring corrodes and breaks so the center part doesn't seal so the system doesn't hold pressure. Check the cap, especially the little center part that is spring loaded.

I had a similar problem about the coolant a couple of years ago and it was that small hose leaking a little.Theres only 4 ways usually to lose coolant out cap, if have 50% coolant.
