James, You have the typical Ithaca Model 37 Featherlight Repeater in 16 gauge with serial number 255221. You notice the serial number is on the barrel and on the front side of the receiver where the magazine tube and barrel are assembled. That barrel was fitted to that receiver and very likely not interchangeable with any other.

It came in completely disassembled in an old coffee can as part of a bunch of parts and pieces I bought with some hot bluing equipment. I would like to get a shorter, more open choked barrel.The cut-down barrel pattern makes it a very short range gun indeed. I have decided to replace it with a 20 gauge M37, an even lighter gun and plenty big for deer. I require a short, rifle-sighted (but not rifled) barrel with an IC or MOD choke for 90% of the time. I will also get a 28", modified barrel just to have a second "field gun".
