It's probably the spring loaded gear selector fork under the shifter assy behind the rear head. it's VERY easy for one side of that spring mechanism to fall off when assembling. this way you don't get a full throw when putting it in gear with the hand shifter. 234 posts · Joined 2009. #7 · Jan 10, 2011 (Edited) If it is hard to start, 9 of 10 times is a problem of valve calibration. Try this: "Rotate the motor while watching the intake valve open and close. Go to the T mark on the flywheel. This is TDC on the compression stroke. Adjust the intake valve to .13mm and the exhaust to .18mm.Put it into gear (forward or reverse) and take off. 2) run at full speed, around 20MPH, and then decelerate. 3) sometimes, as the engine slows RPMs, there will be a gentle clunk and the Mule will be in neutral. All is good. 4) Most times the engine will decelerate and there is no clunk.
