However, Okumura forces you to strategize and use the skills the game told you about. The palace and boss fight are fine, nothing notably difficult unless you choose to ignore basic combat mechanics that you should have been using for the last 40 hours. People only hate Okumura’s palace because of the boss fight.

Its literally just a stat check, get a bunch the elemental bombs and having hifumi party swap are both essential. Just try to keep the baton pass up and get max pass to joker or party member with the corresponding affinity. The fight is trivial on merciless because critical damage is 3.5x. I felt the same way about Okumura's fight and mini-bosses; I liked that it pays off later if you find their weaknesses, allowing for the boss fight to run a bit faster and smoother if you took the time to find each robot's weakness.
I do really think there’s a lack of creativity, I mean it’s less creative then other bosses sure but I still don’t think it’s uncreative, if it was uncreative they could have just had okumura be the boss for the entire fight and had him just be strong, I also just don’t find it as that big an issue, I’d rather it be fun and less original then unique and not fun

Hi can someone please help me how to defeat Okumura boss fight. As mentioned I am in the palace after sending out the calling card and hence can't go back to mementos to farm XP (also don't have any other save to load at an earlier point as I overwrite my saves 😅) I have been struggling to finish it after repeated tries.I cannot beat this stupid boss fight. I came close once but unfortunately Joker got killed. This is my first playthrough. I have the Royal copy of the game and I'm playing on normal. Is my team's level too low? Joker is level 45 and everyone else is level 44. I understand stand the importance of using the baton pass in this fight.

Personally for the boss I had to set the difficulty to merciless, the double edged sword actually helps immensely. I majorly struggled with the Okumura fight until I did that, the key is to make sure you wipe out all of his defensive robots before they run away.
