When you build a "window" you are only building a wall with a space for a window. You can take windows from houses using a crowbar and put them in that space, you can then board them up. I play with easy sandbox settings and have been slightly making things harder every run to try to get better and challenge myself. However - it makes NO sense to me that a zombie can thump his rotting head and hands into metal fucking bars that I welded to the window frame and break them down. No number of zombies should be able to break that.
