They're favorites in our house to read both together and apart. First on the list is "Kid Engineer: Intro to Engineering" by Marc Chamberlain. This book is an excellent introduction to engineering and science for kids. It explores basic engineering concepts in an engaging and kid-friendly manner.

Go read the book that inspired so many different adaptations no one who hasn't read is is quite sure what's in the original. It's a fairly quick read, and is by no means just for children. I discovered Joe Abercrombie last year, blitzed through the First Law trilogy, immediately read the first two books of the new trilogy then realised he wrote three books between them! I haven't read Wisdom of Crowds (if that's the name) but I've just started The Heroes. I can't get enough.
The Princess Bride, Howl's Moving Castle and Hitchhiker's Guide are awesome feel-good books. I also like reading the Stephanie Plum series for some light reading. The last of the hitchhikers books by adams depressed me. I have a weakness for the Shopaholic series.
