My colonists have gotten pregnant twice now and each time they've tried to give birth the ceremony starts and then stops, the colonists then just leave and the pawn is no longer pregnant. Discussion. I made a fun colony I want to continue prior to this recent patch. I made a custom xenotype and the colonists have more genes than metabolism allows. After this update, none of them can get pregnant anymore. I now get this error: Pregnancy failed: combined genes exceeded metabolism limits.Only pawns with the Deathrest gene, such as Sanguophages, are able to deathrest. For pawns with this gene, the need for deathrest falls by 3.3% every day, to a minimum of 0%. This means that a pawn would need to rest every 30 days to avoid exhaustion. If the need is at 0%, pawns will gain the Deathrest exhaustion status with the following effects:

Game literally makes female pawns sterile when they are lactating. So no pregnancy whatsoever (unless you go devmode) when female is lactating. Well that does explain a lot, so that means to go 'baby factory.'. You can't have them lactating. So need lots of baby food or milk producing animals.

You could put the baby's crib in another room/house/part of the colony and put the mother in a zone that doesn't overlap with it. That way, other pawns tasked with Childcare will feed the baby, but the mother won't be able to reach it. I'd like for her to become pregnant again but lactating makes women sterile, it appears.

Edit: Yes, depending on their fertility, women from any race can become pregnant. The older a woman gets, or through surgical or medical complications, the harder it gets to conceive though. You can set whether your colonists should try for kids though, which gives a multiplier to pregnancy chance. Pregnancy is on by default.
