More recent models also have the serial stamped in the yoke cut that can be seen with the cylinder open, like on your 66-2. Your gun was made in 1984 or 85.

Sep 26, 2019 · The Model 37-2 was introduced in 1990. It differs from the Model 37-1 (introduced in 1988) by having a 1/8" front sight vice the original 1/10" front sight. The term "Airweight" was deleted from the barrel in 1993. In the transition years of 1980 - 1983 S&W began using serial numbers beginning with a three letter prefix starting with AAAxxxx.

The -2 after M66 in the model number indicates the second engineering change, which occurred in 1982 and lasted until 1986 when the -3 was released. The Model 66 was initially released in 1970. The -2 change eliminated the pinned barrel and recessed charge holes in the cylinder. The serial number I found is 93569. Could someone help me out please. Unfortunately you are looking at the assembly number not the serial number. You will find the serial on thr bottom of the grip frame when you remove the grips. The actual barrel length, as you noted, is 1 7/8". This was always identified as a 2" barrel by the company, and that is how it would referred to.
