I don't know what a "hard reset" is but the first thing I would try is: 1) remove the navi DVD, 2) disconnect the battery for 10 min., 3) reconnect the battery, 4) reinstall the original navi DVD. If that doesn't work, I think you're better off updating the DVD versus having the dealer do anything.
