It didn't really do it for me. I can't speak to 418 since I haven't taken it. I took both. In my opinion, CS412 is a very good intro course for ML. CS418 is also a good intro course for graphics if you are interested in that area. I took CS412 with Qi Li and CS418 with Eric Shaffer.
