My current place is just 4 training shifts, no tips. I was a bit salty when I bartended, did equal work, was not actually being trained because I knew what I was doing already, and didn’t even get a courtesy tip out after our bar made over $700 in tips for the shift. It was just me and one other bartender.

I think that being interested in what makes a good manager is a good start—I feel like a lot of them think, "Well, they promoted me so obviously I already know everything," and they quit striving to be better.Just remember to not take slow season personally. You can be the best server in the world and only get 10% during slow season. Keep in mind the recession right now is adding flame to the fire. They're expensive at around $80 or so a pair, but well worth it. One pair will last me through about 3 pair of work shoes, so roughly 2 years. Highly recommended.
