Certainly, this may have been necessary pre-Gloomot when space was limited. With multiple floors, however, it's no longer case. Instead, I'd like to cast a vision of (perhaps) a better way to imagine your castle layout. Not building castle walls to every edge of the plot made for a fine statue area (pre-Gloomrot).
